Seeing as how LA has spoiled me with some of the best Mexican cuisine I’ve ever tasted, I could not help but crave the “South of the Border” flavors I had grown so accustomed to when visiting the Hamptons recently. My solution? La Fondita! If you’re looking for a little slice of Mexico in the Hamptons, this famed eatery has got you covered.

Whether you feel like dining on the go, or staying for a casual break, this “little kitchen” offers both, . However, for the full effect, I recommend taking your meal out onto the picnic tables and Adirondack chairs in the outdoor garden that overlooks the pond – I mean, it doesn’t get more Hamptons than that.

But what to eat, pray tell!?

Inspired by traditional Mexican street food found in taquerias from our Southern neighbors, La Fondita offers a variety of dishes that satisfy whatever mood you’re feeling. However, these are the Hamptons to Hollywood Top 3 Selections…

Carne Asada Torta:
Their torta, or Mexican sandwich, is the perfect bite to grab for a lunch or casual dinner. A Portugese roll is filled with refried beans, choirzo mayonaise, lettuce, tomato, avocado, pickled jalepeno, and finished with a touch of crema. In other words, it’s basically every component of Mexican food you want sanwiched into a delicious…err…sandwich…

Quesadillas de Camarrones:
This one MIGHT be my favorite. We’re in the Hamptons, so let’s go with some seafood, shall we? But instead of your basic fish taco, this quesadilla is filled with SHRIMP! Hear that sound? Sorry, it’s just me panting, trying to keep from salivating. A flour tortilla is filled with shrimp, jack cheese, red pepper, corn, onion, and cilantro. Get it Summer Style and receive 2 per order. IT’S TO DIE.

Burrito Bowl:
From the sound of it, you may think, “Hey, I can get that at Chipotle.” I’m sorry, but no you FREAKIN’ CANNOT! La Fondita makes Chipotle look like a McDonalds that failed the Health Department’s latest check-up. If you’re going for that #summerbody, carb-less and carefree, this baby is your best bet. Better still, you can customize it with whatever filling you’re feeling, accompanied by rice, black beans, crema, lettuce, and pico de gallo.

AND because everything above is HOMEMADE – basically tasting as if “abuelita” was in the back kitchen whipping everything up from scratch – it exceeds expectations. Even the SALSA is made with love, and from only the freshest ingredients, of course.

Located right on Montauk Highway in Amangansett, make this your next stop when traveling through the Hamptons. You can thank me later 🙂
