Sometimes you just have to get away for the weekend, even if that means checking out some of the local gems in your very own city at which you wouldn’t normally stay, because, you know, you’re a local. Enter one of Venice’s hippest hotels, The Hotel Erwin.

I was extremely excited to check out the Hotel as it’s seeped in true Venice culture; ocean views and a mere stone’s throw away from the famed Venice Boardwalk. As soon as I entered my suite I knew I was going to have a fun time. The room overlooked the Pacific and was decorated in an original funky decor you would expect from a lodging in Venice Beach, complete with stately graffiti artwork and modern furniture that truly gave the living room an interesting spin. What’s more, opening the door onto the private terrace allowed the gentle sounds of the Pacific waves crashing to fill the room. Coastal living at its finest.

After I became settled in my suite I headed up to the High Rooftop Lounge, a bar with cabanas overlooking the beach, for some celebratory drinks and hors doeuvres. One of my favorite parts of trying new bars and restaurants is the unique selection of cocktails available. I opted for Cliffy’s Tonic, a wonderful selection for those of you starting 2016 with a cleanse; Grey Goose Citron, honey, ginger, fresh lemon, and cayenne. My photog for the day, Conrad, opted for the Chaos Theory; Makers Mark, peach schnapps, mezcal, and pineapple and honey lemon juices. My tastebuds were tingling as soon as the beverages hit my tongue.

For bites, I have to recommend the crab dip and guacamole – both irresistibly fresh and perfect for something light to eat while you imbibe. However, I have to say, the Mahi-Mahi tacos, topped with cabbage and baja sauce and the High Sliders with sharp cheddar and bacon truly sealed the deal. Both tasted as if they were made from only the highest quality ingredients and weren’t too messy or complicated to enjoy atop a rooftop paradise.

After the rooftop shenanigans died down, I headed back to my suite to clean off after a long day (rub a dub dub!) and climbed into one of the coziest beds I’ve ever had the pleasure of resting my body upon. The private bedroom of the suite also looked out onto the ocean, the soothing lapping of the waves against the shore acting as the perfect bedtime lullaby.

By the time I woke up, I was refreshed and ready for the day. Not only was the bathroom fully stocked with luxurious products to keep me looking flawless, there was a necessary Keurig and lots of snacks to munch on before breakfast. The best part of the morning? Taking my coffee onto the balcony and watching the rest of Venice wake up, including the surfers catching the perfect morning swells.

After that it was a walk along the Venice boardwalk to see all the fun vendors, artisans, and street performers entertaining tourists and Los Angelenos alike. Hotel Erwin is the perfect location to see all of LA’s Westside beach cities in one day. After the boardwalk, the Santa Monica Pier and Marina Del Rey are just a stone’s throw away. Head to the hotel ASAP for a fun weekend with friends or mini romantic getaway with that special someone.
