At Hamptons to Hollywood we are all about connecting with the audience that inspires us, be it engaging with our Champagne Society, or taking a look at topical issues that are affecting today’s social climate. Genevieve Berrick, a writer for 429 and editor, provided the following guest article about a Louisiana girl who was initially denied access to her school’s prom because of her administration’s intolerant attitude toward her choice of apparel for the event. Berrick explains how a community rallied together to fix the injustice caused, just so a high school student’s dreams of living the way she wanted to could come true. -Editor, Kyle Langan By now you’ve read all about that high school senior who, despite being an honors student at Carroll High School (Monroe, LA), seemed like she might be prevented from going to her own prom night. The dilemma? A tuxedo. School principal, Patrick Taylor,…

Summertime is here! Well, almost anyway – and that means another sun-soaked season of playing in the Hamptons. Sure, many of you may have properties there, but for the summer share-houser or vacationer looking to spend time in the beachy towns this summer, it’s tricky finding the perfect place to hang. So which is best? It’s best to think of the Hamptons as a family… Southampton – Your Stately Grandfather If the Hamptons were a family, this would be the stately grandfather who has probably mastered the art of being a functioning alcoholic; someone you don’t want to mess with, but who’s a ton of fun. It’s the old-rich of the Hamptons, being one of the first settlements out east where city-folk used to escape. Lots of shops, lots of clubs, and very well-established. Water Mill – Your Dad’s Mistress Water Mill is a smaller hamlet positioned between South and…

You’re probably asking yourself where I’ve been for the past…uh…few weeks? I’m embarrassed to admit that I’ve been crazy busy and have let me blogging fall by the wayside. I know, I know. But, in lieu of any excuses as to where I might have been, I thought I’d just provide you guys with a fun photo diary of the past few weeks. NOTE: I had a birthday 🙂 The featured photo was from an impromptu picnic in a West Hollywood park one afternoon. Picnics are the absolute best. Have everyone bring some food, a soccer ball, some blankets – you can spend hours just hanging with friends in the fresh air. It’s the perfect springtime activity as the weather’s getting warmer. SUnSeTs in Laguna Beach, because…ya know…they look like this… ^ ^ ^ ^ St. Patrick’s Day happened and I had the absolute BEST shirt to wear for the…

This is a special quote that really speaks to me, transcribed word for word, from a film that I enjoy. Any haters might know it as “Witty, Privileged White Lady Travels The World”, but I like to think of it as a movie that kinda changed my life; Eat Pray Love. Thought it might inspire. I mean, the metaphor, guys. The metaphor…”It begins when the object of your affection, bestows upon you a heady, hallucinogenic dose of something you never even dared to admit you wanted. An emotional speed ball of thunderous love and excitement. Soon you start craving that attention with the hungry obsession of any junkie. When it’s withheld, you turn sick, crazy, not to mention resentful of the dealer who encouraged this addiction in the first place, but now, refuses to pony up the good stuff.”God damn him. And he used to give it to you for…

Last night I was cordially invited an Egg Media Mixer at the Gourmandise School in Santa Monica, where celebrity chef, Brooke Williamson, crafted an entire evening of egg dishes for us to make. Let me tell ya, it was eggggg-cellent. It egg-ceeded egg-spectations! Ok, sorry, I’m done.Upon entering Chef Williamson’s kitchen for the evening, we were greeted by our host for the evening and were encouraged to do “egg shooters”, which were raw Safest Choice Eggs (that are healthy because they’re pasteurized) cracked into a shot glass, and, well, shot down your gullet. Because I’m always up for doing the extreme, of course I partook. Though flavorful, the consistency kinda got me. It felt like I had swallowed a big old booger. The mucus-y taste though escaped my palette as soon as Brooke announced the menu. First up, we were making Crab Salad with a 6 minute egg, and topped with…

2014 was one of my favorite years. It was filled with AMAZING things, horrible things, and things that just plain changed my life. Every year I like to acknowledge who it was in that year that changed my life for the better and made me happy. So here it goes…This is such a cliche, and I know you’ve all heard it many times, and I had no idea Marilyn Monroe was such a fucking philosopher, but the best way I can sum up my year is from this quote of hers: “I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they’re right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.”1. New Years Eve: one of the most celebratory nights of the year. Instead of going the traditional nightclub route this year, we instead opted for a road trip to a horse ranch to California wine country. To drink. And ride horses. While drinking. We got off to a late start and didn’t get to leave LA until around 3:00 – which inconveniently for us, was when everyone else and their mother decided to book it out of town as well. Needless to say there were traffic selfies:[L to R] Kyle Langan, Kean Eli, Steven Dougherty, Jon ChallacombAnd then we became hungry and decided to stop at this hidden gem in Chino Hills, called “Lobster Grill”. I know what you’re thinking – a fast food lobster joint? In the middle of the desert? Gotta be delicious, right? Well, it was no lobster roll from the East End, but it was actually pretty…

I’m a guy, and so I really have no business talking about the plastic surgery women get (and neither should anyone else, for that matter) but I kinda feel compelled to weigh in on this Renee Zellweger situation…Yes, I agree with everyone, she looks NOTHING like she did before. But listen people – is it our place to pass judgment? AND am I really the only one who doesn’t think she looks bad?? Because honestly – and yes, here it comes – whoever did her face did a GREAT JOB. I think people are poo-pooing her apparent image change because of how drastically her visage was altered, but no one is paying attention to the aesthetic at how well-crafted the job was performed. Like, she looks like a completely new person, but she looks GOOD. Yes, it’s clear she had work done. But listen, this is Hollywood. Why is everyone so…

I don’t know if you guys knew, but Buffy Summers invited me over for lunch the other day. Ya know, just to hang, like all besties do…If you’re a true Buffy fan, you’re probably thinking, “WTF Kyle, Sunnydale is a crater now!?” So let’s just call it a little bit of magic that brought us together in the locale…(?)Okay, okay. The real deal is that a former Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan had given me a life-size cut-out of Sarah Michelle Gellar about a year ago, because she knew that I was a fan of the show and actress. For whatever reason, I had accepted the gift, but had forgotten to decorate my old apartment with it. So when my friend, Adam, moved into my old abode, I remembered where I had stashed the Slayer and instructed him to go find it and accept it as my housewarming gift to…

Call me nuts, but sometimes I miss the collegiate life. The knowledge, the socializing, the keggers…So it was nostalgia that led me to Cal State Long Beach as I tried to blend in and pretend I was a super senior for the afternoon. To further the college vibe, I dressed entirely in Abercrombie for the occasion with a dark pair of skinny jeans and a classic woven button-down, which, I must admit, A&F knows how to do. I mean they’ve been around since the 1800s so obviously they’ve had time to master crafting quality apparel.  You’d think I was having neck problems the way I kept posing for this photoshoot, so please don’t ask me why that was happening. OH – I even dug into the archives of my closet and pulled out my old lacrosse jacket, which I thought was a fitting (and it still fit!) way to complete…

Last night, fashion bloggers, designers, and stylists converged on the Beverly Center in Los Angeles to celebrate fall fashion with top fashion experts, Adam Gallagher, Aimee Song, and Chriselle Lim.[L to R] Chriselle Lim, Adam Gallagher, Aimee Song The event, sponsored by Los Angeles Magazine and FIDM, offered delicious desserts, wine, and a black and white themed candy bar to create a sumptuous and playful aura. LA Magazine Style Editor, Linda Immediato, moderated a panel with the top bloggers above while they commented on New York Fashion Week and their favorite fashion trends so far this year.Select FIDM students were also in attendance, drawing one of a kind sketches of all the stylish attendees. Yours truly was even asked to be drawn, which is as close as I’ll probably ever get to anything resembling high fashion. Werk. The event also offered a great opportunity for the LA fashion world to mingle…
