You’re probably asking yourself where I’ve been for the past…uh…few weeks? I’m embarrassed to admit that I’ve been crazy busy and have let me blogging fall by the wayside. I know, I know. But, in lieu of any excuses as to where I might have been, I thought I’d just provide you guys with a fun photo diary of the past few weeks. NOTE: I had a birthday 🙂 The featured photo was from an impromptu picnic in a West Hollywood park one afternoon. Picnics are the absolute best. Have everyone bring some food, a soccer ball, some blankets – you can spend hours just hanging with friends in the fresh air. It’s the perfect springtime activity as the weather’s getting warmer. SUnSeTs in Laguna Beach, because…ya know…they look like this… ^ ^ ^ ^ St. Patrick’s Day happened and I had the absolute BEST shirt to wear for the…
Last weekend I was invited to attend the Pan African Film Festival as a media correspondent to write a review on Parts of Disease, an independent film that made it’s world premiere at the event. You can read my full review HERE.Producer Billy Salvadore being interviewed about the filmBut I was also able to check out some awesomely authentic African inspired artwork in a gallery that was sponsored by the event as well. All the pieces were handmade by artists and included original paintings, sculptures, photography and prints. This was my personal favorite piece. Kind of like a Lupita Nyong’o meets Carlton from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. And I couldn’t go to a red carpet event without hopping in a few photos myself. Here I am with a few of the cast members.
Parts of Disease, helmed by Solomon Tubbs-Foster in his feature length directorial debut, premiered at the 2014 Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles, CA to a packed theater on Saturday. The film tackled ambitious social topics such as terrorism, racism, and bigotry, and was pulled together by solid performances from its main cast. Overall the tone was dramatic and thoughtful, making audiences of all races and religions think about their own viewpoints toward others, which in the end, strengthened the film and conveyed its message of intolerance quite well.At times, the storyline bordered on cliche, introducing trope-y characters like the cop-wanting-to-solve-ONE-last-case-before-his-retirement and his superior, a stern, perpetually aggravated agent pressuring him to finish his work and retire already. However, the four protagonists delivered convincing performances and made their individual screen time engaging and thoughtful. David Tolemy narrated the story and evoked a certain likability through his character, Jude, that…
As of late this blog has been reading more like a Golden Globe rap sheet. And this post is no different. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the 71st annual Golden Globe Award nominees this morning in Beverly Hills. It’s common knowledge now that one of my life aspirations/bucket list items/dream job for a year is to be Mr. Golden Globe, so naturally I knew I had to attend the press conference this morning when everything was announced.Behind the ScenesI have to admit, I was kind of flying by the seat of my pants because it had only occurred to me that I SHOULD attend yesterday evening. For a potential project I have lined up, it was crucial to get some photos and footage, even if it was just from my iPhone.I rolled out of bed at 4am sharp, shot up to Beverly Hills, and parked in my usual parking spot…
Golden Globe nominations for the 71st annual awards show will take place on Thursday. Here’s why I’m excited:1) The Globes are a show where anything can happen. People drink. People sing. Superstars make fun of their peers and it’s arguably one of Hollywood’s biggest yearly parties. With that said, I could STILL be acknowledged somehow for my Mr. Golden Globe efforts. Those fickle Hollywood Foreign Press Associat-ors COULD surprise me with an honorary nomination – even though they gave Scarlett the boot.2) I’m eagerly anticipating which films and what actors will be honored. I sort of geek-out. It’s kinda like my Star Trek. Award Season very well might be my Comic Con this year.3) These two babes will be back:4) It’s going to inspire me. It’s an industry I want to be a part of and even though I know I probably won’t be mentioned, just the fact that they’re…
In order to get my smiling mug out to the public for the campaign, I set up a couple photoshoots for myself. Tom Silk was the first photog, and the pics came out awesomely. Here are a few…
Every year at the Golden Globe Awards, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association bestows an honor unto Hollywood offspring called “Mister and Miss Golden Globe”. If you don’t know who or what the chosen do, it’s really simple – they are presented to the guests of the ceremony as it is their “debut” into Hollywood society, and then help escort winners off the stage after they have received their coveted statues. Sounds cool, right? The history of the title(s) dates back to 1963 when the first recipients were awarded; Eva Six and Donna Douglas. And as it is usually nicer to look at beautiful women in gorgeous gowns on the celebrated Hollywood night, the “Miss” title has gone a tad further than the “Mister” – since the inception of this honor, only four young men have ever held the title of “Mr. Golden Globe” as opposed to countless women. Now I am all…
Day three was kind of a clusterfu**. After an eventful evening I was feeling less than my best, shocking I know, but I’m not one to slow down – how could I when I’m getting the opportunity to do something this cool?We headed to the set late morning and watched some really amazing technical apparatuses do their magic. Again, the details are ones I can’t afford to spare. Let’s just say, it was like something out of NASA. After some quality time with people I had more or less befriended from the previous two days, we headed back to the hotel where we had some time to kill before dinner.Being as how I was in another country, I wanted to sight-see, really tourist it up. Thankfully we had a few hours to kill before our dinner reservations, so Wayne and I hit the city streets of Montreal to take everything…
Wayne, the photographer from my photoshoot texted me a week ago and asked me if I’d like to go to the set of the new X-Men movie in Montreal for the weekend. Por qua????? X-Men, you mean the franchise that singlehandedly helped me succeed in every aspect of my life since childhood? Seriously, my parents taped every single episode for me (before DVR, like with actual blank tapes), I read all the comic books [NERD ALERT], and had all the action figures. Not only that, but it gave me an absurdly progressive vocabulary for my age. People can check out Clarity Voice phone system for the best franchise. The writing of that cartoon was brilliant because they didn’t talk down to kids. In one episode, Beast said, “it is very disconcerting, yet provocative, that my experiment did not detonate.” I was like, 6 when I heard that and then that…
Back by popular demand, I decided to upkeep my tradition of trying to crash the Golden Globes this year. And guess what? It worked…ish. The second annual sneak attack worked moderately well. I made my way to Beverly Hills and knew exactly where to park, because I had done it all before. So I stashed my car and took Chad with me as a wingman. He wasn’t too amped on breaking into the ceremony, but I convinced him the event would change his life, so of course he obliged. Decked to the nines, I strutted past the first wave of security by telling them I was picking up my press pass at Will Call. They kindly let me through and I made my way down the sidewalk in front of The Beverly Hilton and onto the Golden Globes’ Red Carpet. I was pretty excited, I can’t lie. It was a feeling…
