I just returned from spending a few days down in Coronado, an island barely off the coast of San Diego that is connected to the Downtown area of the city by a long bridge. I had been to the island once before, a few years ago when my friends Lauren and Jessie came to SoCal to visit from New Jersey, but haven’t had the pleasure of returning since. This time, friends Sabrina (Breezy) and Courtney came back to soak up the Cali sun and dabble into the Hamptons to Hollywood world of revelry and fun. And let’s just say I think they got exactly what they came for. The first day there we spent exploring the Hotel Del Coronado, where they filmed Some Like It Hot, and I went denim on denim for a beachy casual look, which as the Champagne Society knows is my favorite attire to don. I…

From this year’s Oscars theme to having a new superhero movie crop up every few months, it’s official that Hollywood – nay the general public – is obsessed with heroes, which sometimes tend to be super. However, the best superheroes AND the best franchise known to mankind is X-Men, pure and simple. Now, you might think I’m biased because I got to visit the Days of Future Past set in Montreal last summer where I met Hugh Jackman and had James McAvoy light a shot of Sambuca in my mouth – but no. I’ve been a staunch X-Men supporter since the tender age of 4. And I’ll tell you why…1. Superheroes Are People Too!Adapting larger-than-life action heroes into film is no easy task because there’s always the chance that a movie can pull material DIRECTLY from the comics and make you watch that virtual-comic on a big screen. This might…

My final day in Montreal was more subdued than my previous ones, but not any less fun. I explored a bit more around my hotel in the morning and found out there was a mall/metro station attached – which was cool and different – and I took a few pictures for work. For lunch, Wayne and I met up with Bryan and we went to a large square in Montreal to a restaurant that famously has some of the best ribs ever. Now, I preface this with the statement that normally I’m not a big fan of ribs. Sure they’re good, but I guess I’m a little lazy and hate having to gnaw on a bone to eat up every last bit of my meal. Give me a boneless breast with a knife and I’m all cool. However, the ribs at this place were how the French say, “tres magnifique!” So.freaking.good. The…

Day three was kind of a clusterfu**. After an eventful evening I was feeling less than my best, shocking I know, but I’m not one to slow down – how could I when I’m getting the opportunity to do something this cool?We headed to the set late morning and watched some really amazing technical apparatuses do their magic. Again, the details are ones I can’t afford to spare. Let’s just say, it was like something out of NASA. After some quality time with people I had more or less befriended from the previous two days, we headed back to the hotel where we had some time to kill before dinner.Being as how I was in another country, I wanted to sight-see, really tourist it up. Thankfully we had a few hours to kill before our dinner reservations, so Wayne and I hit the city streets of Montreal to take everything…

So it’s day 2 on the set of X-Men and it started off a little slower than the one before. I arrived to the set just before high noon and watched a few more scenes being filmed. The trip was encompassing two of my favorite things ever: X-Men and acting; and was swirling them together into an ice cream cone of perfectness. To top it all off, we had surf and turf for lunch. After craft services, I got to explore more of the set and saw some amazing effects and props of the X-Men universe too juicy and amazing to divulge to all you readers (sorry) for fear of being sued by Twentieth Century Fox :). But trust me, it’s really cool.To continue the VIP treatment even further, Singer’s amazing assistants would bring me lattes and snacks while I was sitting in a director’s chair next to bigwig producers. Can…

Wayne, the photographer from my photoshoot texted me a week ago and asked me if I’d like to go to the set of the new X-Men movie in Montreal for the weekend. Por qua????? X-Men, you mean the franchise that singlehandedly helped me succeed in every aspect of my life since childhood? Seriously, my parents taped every single episode for me (before DVR, like with actual blank tapes), I read all the comic books [NERD ALERT], and had all the action figures. Not only that, but it gave me an absurdly progressive vocabulary for my age. People can check out Clarity Voice phone system for the best franchise.  The writing of that cartoon was brilliant because they didn’t talk down to kids. In one episode, Beast said, “it is very disconcerting, yet provocative, that my experiment did not detonate.” I was like, 6 when I heard that and then that…
